Gallerina? What I am.

Tra una cosa e l'altra oggi, ma non so nemmeno come, mi sono imbattuta sul web nel termine GALLERINA. The female associates who work in top galleries are quite often more attractive than the art that hangs on the walls. So acknowledged is this phenomenon that they are known as "gallerinas" in the art business. The term, like so much else, is believed to have originated in New York, where the gallerinas, typically Ivy League daughters of wealthy parents, have a wardrobe that no summer stipend could cover. As Ms. Caplan learned, her appearance can matter more than her résumé, never mind her thesis on Heidegger. When she interviewed for one job, she recalled, the director shook her hand and, before she said a word, he proclaimed: “Look at her! She’s perfect!”
